HCM City (VNA) - With a long history of friendship and cooperation, Vietnam and Canada will see their comprehensive partnership advancing further in the future, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan remarked at a ceremony marking Canada Day (July 1, 1867 - 2024) held in the southern economic hub on June 26 evening.

Hoan said cooperation between the city and Canada has been strongly promoted in such areas as investment, trade, tourism, as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

HCM City invites the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam and its members to actively participate in the local investment promotion and trade connection events so that the public can become more aware of high-quality products, services, and technologies from the North American nation, the official noted.

Speaking at the ceremony, organised by the Canadian Consulate General, Consul General Annie Dubé said that Canada will invest 2.3 billion USD over the next five years to implement its Indo-Pacific Strategy, in which Vietnam is considered a key partner.

She took the occasion to extend gratitude to those who have forged significant connections between Vietnam and Canada, including over 275,000 Canadians of Vietnamese origin, 16,000 Vietnamese students studying in Canada annually, hundreds of Canadian and Vietnamese businesses, and about 10,000 Canadians residing in Vietnam, among others.

Currently, Canada ranks 22nd among the 117 countries and territories investing in HCM City, with 119 projects and a total investment capital of approximately 130 million USD. Their two-way trade stood at approximately 520 million USD last year./.
