Can Tho (VNA) - The Department of Labour, Invalids andSocial Affairs in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho together with sponsoringbusinesses on September 21 handed over a facility to care for children affectedby Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin, which was built within the municipal centre forsocial work.
With construction having started in January this year, the building costof over 6 billion VND (258,000 USD) was covered by the business community. Thethree-storey facility, which has a total floor area of over 960 square metres, willbe used to accommodate about 60 children.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Secretary of the municipal PartyCommittee Tran Quoc Trung stressed that a policy is needed to support peoplecaring for the children, to encourage them to work, while asking the centre to operatethe building efficiently.
The local department will continue receiving donations for theconstruction of another building at the centre and raising more funds for the bettercare of disabled children and those suffering from AO/dioxin./.
