Can Tho, Israel enhance multi-sectoral cooperation

Can Tho (VNA) – Israeli Ambassador to Vietnam NadavEschar proposed cooperating with the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho in the fieldsof education, energy saving and high-tech agriculture during a working sessionwith the municipal authorities on March 7.

In education, he suggested building a digital learningsystem to manage teaching and study, the online English learning systemSpeaking Pal, and the club “I love science” in schools.

He informed that in early May 2018, Israeli agricultureresearch centres will enroll nearly 500 Vietnamese in a 10-month traininglinkage programme, including 40 from Can Tho, mostly university and college students,or third-year or fourth-year students nationwide with priority given to poorstudents with outstanding academic results and English proficiency.

Qualified candidates will receive support in visaprocedures, living and study fees. The staff of lecturers are doctorate degreeholders and professors who are also farm owners.

Upon graduation, trainees will receive certificates oninternational farming and work as apprentices in agriculture researchinstitutes and large-scale farms for six months.

The ambassador committed to assisting Can Tho in launchingIsrael’s high-tech agriculture models in milch cow breeding, solar power, epidemicsmanagement and aquaculture.

The Israeli side will also offer high-quality personneltraining via the establishment of the applied and technical transfer centre forhigh-tech agriculture, career orientations and eco-tourism in high-techincubator in the city, he said.

On energy saving, Eschar talked about a plan to transfertechnology related to energy saving thanks to the use of smart lighting, whichis effectively underway in several cities and provinces in the southeast.

The country will help Can Tho build a data system regardingland, soil and climate to introduce to investors, hold seminars on hi-techfarming, post-harvest preservation, use and mitigation of water loss in thecity.

Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee TruongQuang Hoai Nam pledged to direct the municipal Department of Education andTraining to pilot the construction of an interactive electronic library, adoptmodern technology in teaching in schools, and use Led bulbs instead of fluorescentbulbs.

He said he will ask the municipal departments of industryand trade, agriculture and rural development to work with Israeli experts todevelop high-tech farming models while the Department of Information andCommunications will popularise information about projects between both sides inthe near future.-VNA
