Phnom Penh (VNA) – About 55,000garment-textile workers and 4,300 others working in the tourism sector inCambodia, who have become jobless by the COVID-19 pandemic, each will receivemonthly financial support worth 40 USD through their Wing Specialised Bankaccounts next week.
The Ministry ofLabour’s spokesperson Heng Sour said the government has already allocated itsbudget to 126 factories and 53 hotels that have registered for support to theirworkers, the Khmer Times reported.
According to theMinistry of Economy and Finance, approximately 300-350 million USD has beendelivered to different economic sectors.
Meas SokSensan, spokesperson of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, said that thisfund is not only for workers who have lost jobs but also for poor familiesaffected by the economic downturn.
Figuresunveiled by the Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia showed that 180factories have suspended their operations and 60 others are also in thepipeline, affecting more than 150,000 workers./.
