Hanoi (VNA) - The National Assembly of Cambodia voted to allow authorities to continue legal action against opposition CNRP Vice President and lawmaker Kem Sokha for ignoring court summonses twice in a lawsuit involving his alleged mistress.

All 68 lawmakers of the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), including Prime Minister Hun Sen, took part in the parliamentary session, while all lawmakers of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) boycotted it.

NA Chairman Heng Samrin announced that 68 lawmakers out of the total 123 lawmakers have agreed to allow the authorities to continue with legal action in line with procedure over the case of Kem Sokha.

Previously on May 26, a Cambodian court requested police to arrest Sokha on the charge of refusal to appear" under article 538 of the Penal Code. Under the charge, Sokha could face a prison term of between one and six months. Sokha refused to appear before the court despite the summonses on May 17 and May 25. The summonses were issued after a 25-year-old hairdresser filed a lawsuit against the lawmaker for breach of trust.-VNA
