Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia is preparing for its first shipment of beef to the Chinesemarket, according to the Cambodian Ministry ofAgriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).
The ministry said Cambodiawill benefit from the US-China trade war and trade tension between China and Australia– the country that exports most beef to China.
Speaking at a contractsigning ceremony involving 58 farming communities and exporters at MAFF onSeptember 29, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Veng Sakhon saidthe government is diversifying agricultural products and beef is one of the potentialfoods to export to China.
In the near future, the Southeast Asian nation will expand markets, especiallyfor agricultural products for export.
Cambodia and China expect to sign a free-trade agreement soon, Sakhon said,expressing his hope that with the largest population in the world, China willbe a huge market for Cambodia’s farm produce.
Currently, Cambodiamainly exports live cattle to Vietnam and Thailand. The country will alsoimport cows from Australia for domestic farming./.
