Minister of Tourism Thong Khon noted that thefigure was higher than the ministry had predicted, and more than the countryhad seen prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He noted that while the opening of the 10thanniversary Angkor Sangkran in Siem Reap was presided over by Prime MinisterHun Sen and his wife Bun Rany, additional Sangkran events were held in otherprovinces and the capital, drawing large crowds of trevellers.
The ministry's spokesman Top Sopheak said on April17 that the high number of holiday-makers was the result of an improvedCOVID-19 situation and excellent infrastructure improvements.
Cambodia is expected to attract more than 4million foreign tourists in 2023, doubling the figure of 2.2 million itreceived last year./.
