Phnom Penh (VNA) –Prime Minister Hun Sen has called on people to join him to maintain thecountry’s peace as Cambodia is preparing for the commune elections in June.
He made the remarks at the openingceremony of the Cambodian New Year celebrations at the Angkor ArcheologicalPark in northwestern Siem Reap province on April 14.
The commune elections are set to take place on June 4 with theparticipation 12 political parties in 1,646 communal and ward councils acrossthe country.
The result of the Juneelections is considered strongly influencing the National Assembly electionwhich is scheduled for July 2018.
On April 13, the Cambodian National Election Committee (NEC) reportedthat hackers tried to break and change data of the online list of registeredvoters for the June elections.
However, NEC said the act did notaffect the official voter list as the data was kept not only on the website ofNEC but also on other secured server systems.
The lists were also printed andsent to the election committees in localities to prepare for the upcomingelections.
The commune elections in Cambodia are held every five years.-VNA
