Phnom Penh (VNA) – Theacting leader of the opposition party of Cambodia Kem Sokha returned to attend the National Assembly's plenary session on December 7 afterone year of absence.
The National Assembly's plenary session was chaired by President Samdech Heng Samrin,with the participation of 65 legislators of the ruling Cambodia People’s Party(CPP) and 39 others from the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).
Kem Sokha was removed from his formerposition as the First Vice President of the National Assembly of Cambodia inlate October 2015.
Last week, he received a royal pardonfrom King Norodom Sihamoni per the request of the Prime Minister Samdech HunSen.
Later, President Samdech Heng Samrinsigned a document to accept the CNRP’s request, which appointed Kem Sokha asthe parliament's minority leader instead of SamRainsy, the leader of the CNRP who currently lives abroadin exile.
At the session, Prime Minister HunSen stated that Kem Sokha is his dialogue partner todiscuss national issues,along with the parliament’s majority leader Sar Kheng, the Deputy Minister andMinister of Interior of Cambodia.
The Parliament of Cambodia consists123 seats, of which the CPP holds 68 while the CNPR holds 55 seats.-VNA
