Hanoi (VNA) - Cambodia's armedforces organised a rehearsal at a sports stadium in the capital of Phnom Penh onJuly 25, ahead of a general election which is scheduled for this weekend.

A total of 4,625 police officers were deployed at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh in a display toprepare security measures during the election.
Phnom Penh's Police Chief Chuon Sovann saidthat the forces will be deployed across the city to maintain security on theelection day.

Cambodia is set to hold the general election for the 125-seat parliamenton July 29.  Twenty political parties will contest in theelection, which will see some 8.38 million people cast their ballots, accordingto the Cambodian National Election Committee.

The 20-day election campaign began on July 7 and will end on July 27.

As many as 220 observers from 52 countries will monitor the election,heard a media briefing in Phnom Penh on July 24.

According to the National Election Committee, most of the observers arefrom China, Indonesia, and several international organizations. Other countriessending representatives to observe the election include Myanmar, Singapore,Vietnam, Pakistan, Timor Leste, the Philippines, Brunei and Thailand.-VNA
