Phnom Penh (VNA) – The National Election Committee (NEC) ofCambodia on September 1 began voter registration nationwide for the 6th National Assembly election, which is scheduled for July 29, 2018.
All of the registration venues will open from November 1-9 and voters, from 18years old, are allowed to register and adjust their personal information on thevoter list of the communal elections taking place on June 4.
TheNEC called major political parties, media and social organisations in thecountry as well as foreign organisations to further coordination to ensure asuccessful process.
The committee estimates that total population of Cambodia is over 15.88 millionwith 9.78 million eligible voters. However, only 7.86 million people joined inthe previous communal elections.
In the upcoming National Assembly election, Cambodian people will vote for 125members of parliament. Earlier, parties in the country shared 123 parliamentaryseats, 68 of which were won by ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) while itsopposition Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) held 55 seats.-VNA
