Cambodia begins communal election campaigns

Cambodian parties on May 20 launched campaigns for communal elections which are scheduled to take place on June 4.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodian parties onMay 20 launched campaigns for communal elections which are scheduled to takeplace on June 4.

As many as 94,595 candidates from 12 politicalparties will compete for the 11,572 seats in rural and urban precincts.

The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) andthe opposition National Rescue Party (NRP) have candidates who are running forevery seat in the 1,646 communes.

The two-week campaign will end one day beforethe communal elections.

In the 2012 communal elections, the CPP won morethan 70 percent of the votes and secured 1,592 of 1,633 communal seats.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi
