The move is part of a regional crackdown as Chinabattles telephone and internet scams that have cost billions of USD in losses.
Cambodian police said on August 16 that 225 Chinesenationals, including 25 women, were arrested in Phnom Penh capital. Immigrationauthorities said another 151 Chinese and three Taiwanese had been arrested onAugust 2 in Siem Reap and Banteay Meanchey provinces.
Thou Saroeun, deputy director of the anti-terrorismpolice department, said those arrested were suspected of using internet voicecalls for an extortion scheme.
In recent years, Cambodia has deported to China morethan 600 Chinese and Taiwanese arrested on suspicion of telecoms scams.-VNA
