Cambodia admires Vietnam’s development, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong said at a banquet on September 1 hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh to mark Vietnam’s 70th National Day.
In his speech at the event, the Deputy Prime Minister said together with Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, Vietnam was a newer member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) but the country has achieved remarkable socio-economic development and made positive contribution to promoting ASEAN economic connectivity.
He also emphasised effective cooperation results in many fields between the two countries in recent time, citing out trade as an example which reached 3.3 billion USD in 2014.
Deputy PM Hor Namhong said Vietnam and Cambodia always respect each other’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integration and support one another at international forums.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Thach Du recalled the moments when President Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the birth of an independent Vietnam.
He highlighted the great comprehensive achievements made by Vietnam over the last seven decades, especially those reaped during the country’s reform (Doi moi) process.
Vietnam is a reliable partner and responsible member of the international community, he affirmed, adding that the country is joining other ASEAN member nations in building an ASEAN Community by the end of this year.
Du said he is pleased to witness the constant development of the Vietnam-Cambodia traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation, stressing that the relations have been reinforced and further deepened, benefitting both countries’ people.
The ambassador took the occasion to thank Cambodia’s generations of leaders and people and international friends for their valuable support to and cooperation with Vietnam during its past struggle for independence and present national construction and development.-VNA
