CAAV asks for approval for Phu Quoc and Pleiku expansion plans

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has recently asked the Ministry of Transport to approve its detail planning adjustments for Phu Quoc International Airport in the southern province of Kien Giang and Pleiku Airport in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai.

Hanoi (VNA) - The Civil Aviation Authority ofVietnam (CAAV) has recently asked the Ministry of Transport to approve itsdetail planning adjustments for Phu Quoc International Airport in the southernprovince of Kien Giang and Pleiku Airport in the Central Highlands province ofGia Lai.

The proposal was made according to Decision No 236/QĐ-TTg ofthe Prime Minister approving the adjustments to air transport planning in the2020-2030 period, in which the Phu Quoc International Airport is determined toincrease its capacity to 4 million visitors per year by 2020 and 10 millionvisitors by 2030.

Meanwhile, the Pleiku Airport is set to welcome 2 millionpassengers per year by 2020 and 4 million by 2030 in order to meet theincreasing travel demand as well as socio-economic development of Gia Lai inparticular and the central region in general.

CAAV said that the planning adjustment project for the PhuQuoc Airport from now to 2030 would include calling for investment, upgradingand expanding the site, to meet the increasing demand of aviation transport.

In the past, the airport was upgraded with infrastructureand services including its apron, passenger terminals and roads in order toincrease capacity. At the end of last year, it received 3.2 million passengers.-VNA
