Ca Mau (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau has proposed the Ministry ofAgriculture and Rural Development to fast-track allocation of the funding for threelocal climate change response projects.
The projects includea 658-billion-VND project to construct sea dykes and plant coastal mangroveforests, a 633-billion-VND project to build sandbag walls along the East Sea coast,and a project to plant protection riverside and coastal forests and forests atriver mouths, aiming to tackle erosion.
They are partof the Support Programme to Response to Climate Change in Vietnam (SP-RCC).
The projectshave long-term benefits that will lessen effects of climate change and sealevel rise, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture andRural Development To Quoc Nam said, adding that they will not only ensure thesafety of local residents and their properties but also protect the distinctiveecosystem of the provincial mangrove forests.
In addition,the embankments along the East Sea coast will help protect nationalsecurity.-VNA
