Ca Mau (VNA) – The southernmost province of Ca Mau is asking forthe central government’s financial support of 57 billion VND (2.5 million USD)to recover consequences of natural calamities.
Under a document recently sent to the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment, the province said the money will be used to upgrade and repairirrigational works, dredge up rivers, reinforce river embankments, and buildfacilities to prevent drought and saline intrusion to safeguard farming land inU Minh, Thoi Binh and Tran Van Thoi districts.
Those are part of efforts to mitigate damages caused by prolonged drought andsaline intrusion and protect winter-autumn rice crop 2017-2018 in the locality.
Ca Mau province has 254 kilometres of coastline. Due to critical impacts ofclimate change and natural disasters like drought, landslide and salineintrusion, the province experiences economic losses worth tens of billions ofVND each year.-VNA
