Ca Mau Agriculture and Rural Development Department has asked all shipowners in the province to commit not to discharging oil and waste orover exploiting aquatic products, said the department’s Director Le VanSu.
The department has also asked fishermen notto throw dead fish or exploit aquatic products within three nauticalmiles from coastline in an effort to help the provincial aquatic sectordevelop in a sustainable manner.
Su noted thatin the long- run, the province will also have a comprehensive fisherydevelopment plan and set up fishery co-operatives.
Ca Mau currently has 4,400 fishing vessels with more than 20,000fishermen, exploiting 200,000 tonnes of seafood annually.
Being surrounded by sea on three sides, fishing is an important industry in Ca Mau, the southernmost point of Vietnam.-VNA
