Bua Liem Vang Press Awards affirms political stance of journalists

Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasised that the entries in the Bua Liem Vang (Golden Hammer & Sickle) Press Awards 2019 affirmed the profound political awareness, professional ethics and revolutionary spirit of journalists nationwide.

The fourth “Bua Liem Vang” (Golden Hammer & Sickle) Press Awards 2019 took place in Hanoi on January 15 with the participation of leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, localities and press agencies nationwide.

This is part of activities to celebrate the 90th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3).

This year, the organisers received a total of 1,660 works of different subjects, genres, including in print, online, for TV, for radio, and photos.

Out of the 1,660 entries, 57 excellent ones were awarded, including five A prizes, 10 B prizes, 15 C prizes, 25 consolation prizes and 2 new additional awards for the best work on the protection of the Party’s ideological foundation and for the best work by an overseas Vietnamese author.

Addressing the event, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said, the Bua Liem Vang Press Awards affirmed the profound political consciousness, professional ethics and the revolutionary spirit of journalists nationwide.

The Party, State and people have always acknowledged and attached significance to the outstanding efforts and important contributions journalists have made to the cause of the Reform (Doi Moi), national integration and development.

The Party, State and people have also always acknowledged the pioneering role of journalists, who have made contribution to reinforcing the solidarity in the Party, and consensus among the people.

“The press has proven to be a sharp tool of the Party and State in popularising, advocating and educating the whole Party, people and army to unify and overcome difficulties, thus bringing the nation’s revolution to great victories and beautifying the history. Therefore, press works about Party building has a special significance," Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed.

The Prime Minister also asked agencies and units to pay attention to training and building capacity, thus making sure that journalists have firm political stance, good expertise, and always uphold professional ethics.

At the ceremony, the organising board presented the Dedication Award to experienced journalist Ha Dang, who is former Member of the Party Central Committee, former Head of the Central Propaganda Department in recognition of  his contributions to the cause of the Vietnam’s revolutionary journalism in general and the press writings about the Party building in particular.

During the event, the Steering Committee and the Organising Committee launched the 5th National Press on Party building (Golden Hammer & Sickle Press Awards) in 2020.

The information and propaganda work of press agencies should focus on popularising the Party building to protect the Party's ideological foundation while voicing against the false allegations and misinterpretations of enemies and hostile forces. They should reflect the implementation of the Resolution 18 and 19 of the 12th National Congress.

Press works should also continue updating the implementation of the Central Resolution No. 4 of the 11th and 12th tenure, on  Party building and rectification in connection with the Politburo's Directive 05 on "Promoting learning and following thought, morality and style of President Ho Chi Minh."

The Vietnam News Agency’s journalist association won one B prize and two consolation prizes at the fourth Bua Liem Vang (Golden Hammer & Sickle) Press Awards 2019./.
