Hanoi (VNA) – A breakthrough has been achieved in revising the framework for political dialogue between Myanmar’s government and armed forces, official media reported on June 13.

Tin Myo Win, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for Holding the 21 st Century Panglong Ethnic Conference of Myanmar, made the announcement after a four-day meeting in Yangon which ended on June 12.

He said non-signatories to the Nationwide Cease Fire Accord (NCA) would be invited again to participate in the framework review meeting to allow them to join the Panglong conference, which is slated for late July or August.

The preparatory committee has set a precedent for the review of the amendment to the framework of the political dialogue, aiming to attract ethnic armed groups who are yet to sign the NCA.

The Republic of the Union of Myanmar’s previous government and eight out of 15 ethnic armed groups signed the NCA on October 15, 2015.

Following the signing, a union-level Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee (JCMC) was formed, along with a tripartite Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee which is to draft a framework for holding political dialogue as part of the NCA implementation.-VNA
