Hanoi (VNA) – Brazilian authorities said on April 17 that the country will soonresume meat exports to Indonesia following the Southeast Asian nation's importrestrictions for years over food security concerns.
BrazilianMinister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply Blairo Maggi said the twocountries' negotiations over trading details are in the final phase.
An Indonesiantechnical group will examine several slaughterhouses in Brazil, he added.
The ministersaid Brazil has also negotiated with the Republic of Korea on meat exports andplans to expand its markets in China and Russia.
In March 2017,Indonesia decided to stop importing beef and chicken from Brazil after ameatpacking scandal raised doubts about the country's food industry.
Brazil is theworld’s top beef and poultry exporter and is ranked fourth globally in porkexports. The three types of meat’s export revenue amounted to 11.6 billion USD in2016.
