According to the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the vesselcapsized on the night of July 1 off southern Malaysia’s Johor state, with 44passengers onboard.
The boat was en route from Batam island of Indonesia to Tanjung Penawarin Johor state.
So far, 25 people were rescued. Search and rescue forces are looking forthe missing passengers.
Nearly 150 rescuers from several Malaysian government agencies, alongwith seven vessels and one helicopter have been deployed for the search in anarea of more than 510 square kilometers.
In addition, Malaysian authorities have requested assistance fromSingapore and Indonesia to search for the missing within their own waters.-VNA
