Dong Nai (VNA) - A gaur was found dead on July 23 at the Dong NaiCulture and Nature Reserve in Ma Da commune, Vinh Cuu district in the southernprovince of Dong Nai.
Forest rangers discovered the dead bull, weighing around 700-900 kilogrammes,while patrolling the reserve on the day.
Full investigation is underway to determine the exactcircumstances surrounding his death.
Since 2016, three individuals of this kind were found dead in the reserve, twoof which died of old age and collision with transport vehicle.
Gaurs is native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It has been listed as‘Vulnerable’ on the International Union for Conservation ofNature’s Red List since 1986. In 2006, they were listed in Vietnam’s RedList as a rare wildlife species, meaning any gaur poaching or trading activitywas banned.
TheDong Nai Culture and Nature Reserve is now home to five herds of guar, each having40-50 head.-VNA
