Binh Thuan (VNA) – The Investigation PoliceAgency of Binh Thuan province’s Police on June 15 decided to start legalproceedings against people involved in disturbances in Phan Ri Cua town in TuyPhong district, and Phan Thiet city on June 10-11.
These people were prosecuted on charges of “causingpublic disorder, destroying property and resisting on-duty officials.”
Colonel Nguyen Van Nhieu, spokesperson of the provincialPolice, said the agency and police of Tuy Phong and Bac Binh districts and PhanThiet city have been asked to promptly investigate the case and complete dossiersof the arrestees to soon bring the case to justice.
The provincial Police have also asked local policeand relevant units to mobilise forces and step up professional measures toensure security, order and peace for residents.
“The provincial Police are resolved not to letsimilar incidents occur in any localities,” he said.
Thedisturbances occurred on June 10-11 as a group of people gathered and moved tothe provincial People’s Committee headquarters to protest a draft law onspecial administrative-economic units. Traffic in Phan Thiet city on those dayswas paralysed.
According tostatistics, during the two days, 12 automobiles were burned while 18 motorbikesand automobiles were destroyed in Bac Binh district. Meanwhile, 30 policeofficers were injured and headquarters of the Binh Thuan Fire Police Departmentin Phan Ri Cua town of Tuy Phong district was seriously damaged.
In Phan Thietcity, 23 automobiles and motorbikes were burned and one car was damaged.Protestors also destroyed the fence around the provincial People’s Committeeheadquarters, as well as some parts of other provincial agencies. There were 44wounded police officers, with most of them discharged from hospital.-VNA
