Binh Duong prepares for WTA events

Leaders of the southern province of Binh Duong on March 20 had a meeting with a delegation from the UNESCO-WTA Technopolis Development Centre to discuss preparations for the World Technopolis Association (WTA) in the locality.

Binh Duong will host the 11th meeting ofthe WTA General Assembly, the High Technology Fair, and the 2018 GlobalInnovation Forum in this October.

At the meeting, Chairman of the provincialPeople’s Committee Mai Hung Dung proposed that the two sides work on a detailplans and choose the theme for each event, along with communications contentsand the plan for construction of venue for the High Technology Fair.

Yoslan Nur, a UNESCO expert who led thedelegation, said that the UNESCO and the WTA have cooperated from 2005 in allfields, including supporting countries in organising training courses forofficials and providing technology in building high technology parks. From2014, the Global Innovation Forum was launched, he added.

Yoslan Nur showed his delight at thedevelopment of Binh Duong, expressing his belief that the province willsuccessfully host the events, opening more opportunities for bilateralaffiliation in the future.

Earlier, Binh Duongand the WTA signed a memorandum of understanding for hosting WTA events.

Binh Duong is anindustrial hub of the southern region and the country as a whole. Last year theprovince grew at 9.15 percent, its highest ever rate. Exports grew by 17.6percent to 28.5 billion USD.

In the first twomonths of this year, domestic and foreign investments have been worth 10.3trillion VND (450 million USD) and 435 million USD, respectively.

The province now has31,548 domestic enterprises with registered capital of 247.5 trillion VND (11billion USD) and 3,075 foreign projects worth 29 billion USD.

It is ranked secondin terms of FDI attraction behind only HCM City.-VNA
