The southern province of Binh Duong is determined to build a smart and eco-friendly city before 2021, said Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Thanh Liem.

Binh Duong (VNA) – The southern province of Binh Duong is determined to build asmart and eco-friendly city before 2021, said Chairman of the provincialPeople’s Committee Tran Thanh Liem.

Accordingly,the province will be able to boast five smart zones in Binh Duong city and foursouthern townships.

Since 2015,Binh Duong has partnered with the Dutch city of Eindhoven to launch asocio-economic development model based on close partnership between the State,schools, and businesses.

At the sametime, Binh Duong will focus on speeding up comprehensive administrative reformand developing an eco-friendly transportation system.

In August2018, Binh Duong was recognised as the 106th member of the World TechnopolisAssociation, making it easier for the province to both acquire experience indeveloping a smart and modern city with sustainable development, as well aspopularising the locality to international partners and introduce its opportunitiesto attract foreign investment.

In the nearfuture, Binh Duong will concentrate on an investment attraction project for the2016-2020 period, targeting partners with strong financial capability and majoreconomic groups worldwide.

It willalso gear foreign capital into high technology with high added value, eco-friendlyqualities, and requiring a limited workforce, including industrial zones andcomplexes. Domestic capital will be encouraged in the support industry, towardsgradually joining the global value chain of multinational groups.

Liem saidthe smart city development project was approved by the provincial People’sCommittee in November 2016.

As ofSeptember 2018, Binh Duong recorded over 31.2 billion USD in foreign directinvestment in more than 3,300 valid projects, ranking third in the country. Ofwhich, over 3,000 projects worth 22.5 billion USD are in manufacturing andprocessing, making Binh Duong a locality with rapid industrialisation and urbanisationin the southern key economic zone.–VNA
