Binh Dinh (VNA) – Infrastructure works completed under the Coastal Cities Environmental Sanitation Project (CCSEP) in Quy Nhon city, the central costal province of Binh Dinh significantly contributed to improving local environment, said WB experts.
Experts from the Word Bank (WB), which provided financing for the project, had a working session with local authorities on the Quy Nhon subproject’s first stage and preparations for the next period on March 10.
They said d rainage, wastewater collection and treatment as well solid waste management and school sanitation facilities formed within the framework of the project have practically benefited local people.
However, the operation and maintenance at a number of facilities still are inefficient, they noted.
WB expert of water supply and drainage Ianin Menzies cited w eak capacity and technical faults in the Nhon Binh waste water treatment plant, stressing that if these problems are not fixed soon, they will cause great losses.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phan Cao Thang instructed the local project Management Board and relevant agencies to work together to promptly solve the problems found by WB experts.
The first stage of CCSEP was i mplemented in Dong Hoi city (Quang Binh province), Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh province), and Nha Trang city (Khanh Hoa province) in Vietnam’s central region from 2007-2014.
More than 800,000 citizens benefited from the project with about 250,000 benefiting from reduced flooding. More than 800,000 citizens now enjoy improved solid waste management service, 66,500 students have better schools sanitation facilities; and 8,452 poor families have benefited from the received revolving fund for upgrading their toilets.
The first period of Quy Nhon subproject was implemented with a total investment of 74.8 million USD.
The second one, with an estimated budget of 50 million USD, will focus on bettering water drainage and waste water collection systems, building more waste treatment facilities, including incinerators, among others.-VNA
