Binh Dinh (VNA) – Fishermen in Quy Nhon city, central Binh Dinh province are enjoying a big ocean tuna catch their long offshore fishing voyage.
Up to six tuna fishing boats which employed Japan’s latest fishing technologies moored at Quy Nhon fishing port in Hai Cang ward on January 22 bring bank 1.2-1.6 tonnes of ocean tuna each- the highest record since the beginning of this year.
The boats caught from 1.2 to 1.6 tonnes of ocean tuna, the highest record since the beginning of this year.
Over 10 ocean tuna fishing boats have to date moored in the province. All their caught ocean were bought by the Binh Dinh Seafood Joint Stock Company, which select and export best tuna to Japan.
The company exported the first batch of eight tuna to Japan in the first selection.
Other boats are expected to come back on January 23.
Vietnamese tuna products are exported to 105 countries and territories, including the US, Japan, Israel and Canada, as well as the EU and ASEAN.
Ocean tuna exports have been the third biggest earner in Vietnam’s seafood industry with a value of 400 million USD in 2014, behind only catfish and shrimp.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Producers and Exporters (VASEP), tuna exports are expected to increase by 8 percent in 2015 to 507 million USD-VNA
