Ben Tre province fosters relations with RoK

The Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre is home to five projects invested by the Republic of Korea (RoK) with a total registered capital of nearly 82 million USD, heard a meeting on December 14.

Ben Tre (VNA) – The Mekong Deltaprovince of Ben Tre is home to five projects invested by the Republic of Korea(RoK) with a total registered capital of nearly 82 million USD, heard a meetingon December 14.

Speaking at the meeting, held to mark the 30th anniversary of the Vietnam-RoK diplomatic ties, Vice Chairman of the provincialPeople’s Committee Nguyen Truc Son said the Korean investment accounts for 5%of the combined FDI in Ben Tre.

Regarding non-governmental organisations (NGOs), theGlobal Vision and Good People International of the RoK are operating in BenTre, covering education and clean water, with some 110,000 USD committed thisyear.

The provincial General Hospital has been builtat a cost of 1.65 trillion VND (78 million USD), of which 1.33 trillion VNDcomes from official development assistance (ODA) under an agreement between theVietnamese Ministry of Finance and the RoK's Keximbank.

Ben Tre exported 23.45 million USD worth of goods tothe RoK last year, up 2.71% year-on-year, while its import value from thecountry stood at 8.32 million USD, down 63.75%.

The export revenue in the first half of this yearreached 12.33 million USD, a year-on-year rise of 7.31%.

The RoK’s Vice Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City KwonSun Chil expressed his hope that Korean firms will continue their investment inBen Tre and play a more active role in boosting the friendship and exchangebetween the two countries.

On this occasion, the provincial People’s Committeepresented certificates of merit to collectives and individuals in recognitionof their contributions to preserving and enhancing the good traditionalrelations between Vietnam and the RoK as well as between Ben Tre and the EastAsian nation.
