Bac Lieu attracting foreign investment for ethnic minority areas

Bac Lieu (VNA) - The Mekong Deltaprovince of Bac Lieu is attracting foreign investment and experience to supportthe socio-economic development of ethnic minorities.

By 2025, the province will draw official development assistance (ODA) and preferentialloans, especially non-refundable aid, for socio-economic development in ethnicminority areas based on demand and potential and on the principle of preservingand upholding traditional cultural identities and protecting the environment.

It will givepriority to dealing with shortages of land, housing, and water for daily use amongethnic minority households; and developing agro-forestry and investing in keyinfrastructure, education, scientific research and technological transfer inproduction connectivity models via value chains.

Furtherattention will also be paid to healthcare, child malnutrition prevention,gender equality, and addressing urgent problems faced by women and children.

Vice Chairman ofthe provincial People’s Committee Phan Thanh Duy said the province will workclosely with the Central Steering Committee on the National Target Programme onSocio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority Areas, the Coordinating Office ofthe programme, and ministries and agencies to identify demand for internationalinvestment and ensure openness and transparency.

It will alsooffer all possible support in terms of policies, mechanisms, land, and humanresources to facilitate foreign investment.

Priority will begiven in site clearance, vocational training, the implementation of signedinternational agreements, conventions and contracts, and the expansion ofinternational cooperation, to seek new partners.

Each year, theprovince will add more capital to build projects, hold exchanges withstakeholders, and raise funds from domestic and foreign sponsors for theeffort./.
