Auto sales grow 55 percent in 2015

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam sold a total of 244,914 cars in 2015, an annual increase of 55 percent, the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association announced on January 11.

All automotive categories gained momentum, with the sales of passenger cars, commercial cars, and special-purpose cars expanding 44 percent, 74 percent and 105 percent, respectively.

The number of domestically made vehicles sold last year gained 48 percent annually, reaching 173,040 cars. Meanwhile, the figure for imported cars soared 74 percent year on year, with 71,874 units sold.

According to the General Statistics Office, the total import value of automobiles and automobile parts was estimated at nearly 6 billion USD in 2015, of which the import value of automobiles reached 3 billion USD.-VNA
