ASEAN Summit to debate promotion of COC negotiation

The promotion of negotiations towards a code of conduct of parties in the East Sea (COC) will be discussed at the upcoming ASEAN Summit in Malaysia, said Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Hai Binh at a regular press conference on April 9.

Binhsaid the 26 th ASEAN Summit, scheduled to take place in Malaysia onApril 26-27, will focus on issues such as the ASEAN Community and itspost-2015 vision as well as the bloc’s centrality.

The event will appraise the impacts of the financial crisis, thesluggish recovery of regional economies and solutions for ASEANcountries to this problem.

Meanwhile, disastermanagement and climate change along with regional maritime and aviationsecurity and safety issues will also be high on the agenda, he added.

As the 2015 chair of ASEAN, Malaysia has chosen thetheme “Our People, Our Community, Our Vision” to drive the yearlyagenda, reflecting its vision of a “people-centred ASEAN” throughout thechairmanship year.

Founded in August1967, ASEAN consists of 10 member countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia,Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailandand Vietnam.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi
