ASEAN, ROK to forge closer cooperation

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Republic of Korea agreed on the need for both sides to re-double efforts to implement the remaining measures of their Plan of Action (POA) at the Second Meeting of the ASEAN-ROK Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta on March 24.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Republic ofKorea agreed on the need for both sides to re-double efforts toimplement the remaining measures of their Plan of Action (POA) at theSecond Meeting of the ASEAN-ROK Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) at theASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta on March 24.

According to the ASEANSecretariat, the meeting reviewed bilateral cooperation in the past oneyear and discussed its future direction, particularly on the progress ofimplementation of the ASEAN-ROK Plan of Action for 2011-2015.

Thetwo sides acknowledged the progress of implementation of the POA asreflected by the large number of activities and projects implementedthus far.

They also agreed to work closely in finalising theASEAN-ROK POA for 2016-2020 to reflect new commitments that will furtherstrengthen ASEAN-ROK cooperation as well as contribute to the ASEANCommunity-building process.

The two sides discussed ways to enhancethe efficiency and effectiveness of bilateral cooperation, including byexploring new possible approaches to expedite the project appraisal andapproval process and to enhance the utilisation of the ASEAN-ROKCooperation Funds.-VNA
