Seoul (VNA) – A series of videos released by the ASEAN – Korea Centre(AKC) on September 27 is expected to provide a deeper insight into the richculture and unique architecture of Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam, as well aspromote collaboration between the ASEAN bloc and the Republic of Korea (RoK).
Themed “a journey to culture and architecture” the five-minute videos shedlight on two cities in each nation. Therespective countries' national tourism organizations recommended thearchitecture to be featured in the videos and architect-writer Oh Young-wookprovided the commentary.
The Vietnam video takes viewer to Hanoi, a city with 1,000 years of history,and Ninh Binh – dubbed as the “Ha Long Bay on land”. It spotlights a blend ofEuropean flair and traditional elements in such iconic structures as the Opera House,St.Joseph’s Cathedral, Phat Diem Cathedral and Bai Dinh Pagoda.
For Cambodia, the focus is on its capitalPhnom Penh, and the coastal town of Kampot. The video highlights the New Khmerarchitecture that characterises modern Phnom Penh, featuring buildings that aregrand in scale and bold in aesthetics. Landmarks like the National SportsComplex and Phsar Thmey (Central Market) exemplify this. Also showcased is theregenerated Le Bokor Palace in Kampot, demonstrating the country's innovativespirit.
Meanwhile, Jakarta and the cradle of Javanesecivilisation, Yogyakarta, are the key features of the Indonesia video. From theancient Javanese architecture at Fatahillah Square to symbols of Indonesia’snational identity like Monas and Istiqlal Mosque, the video exploresIndonesia's pluralistic society. It also includes a glimpse into moderncultural arts spaces and sustainable architecture, underlining the nation'sprogressive approach to inclusive urban development.
Thevideos are developed under the “ASEAN Familiarisation Tour” programme initiatedin 2019. The programme has been held in the virtual format since the COVID-19pandemic broke out.
