ASEAN and Germany have agreed to continue cooperative projects inenvironmental protection, climate change response, regional economicintegration and capacity building.
The agreement came out fromthe ASEAN-Germany Joint Cooperation Committee’s 21st meeting inJakarta, Indonesia, on January 28 after Germany’s past assistance toASEAN was recognised as being very beneficial to the group.
Addressing the meeting, German Ambassador to ASEAN Georg Witschel laidspecial stress on the importance of Southeast Asia to Germany, reportingthat his country has to date provided around 70 million EUR forprojects and operations within ASEAN.
Lee Chen Chen, an ASEANofficial, spoke highly of Germany’s assistance to ASEAN’scommunity-building efforts, noting that the group will work closely withGermany to step up a closer, highly efficient connection in nationaland regional activities.
The meeting also brought togetherrepresentatives of economic and trade development and cooperationagencies of the EU, the EU’s Permanent Mission at ASEAN, the GermanAgency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the KfW bank of Germany.-VNA
