Hanoi (VNA)- On August 8, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the embassies of ASEAN countries in Vietnam to organize the exhibition "ASEAN Cultural Colors" at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum.
The event aims to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (August 8, 1967 - 2022), contributing to further enhancing mutual understanding among regional people, and at the same time expanding opportunities for economic cooperation, investment and tourism.
“The ASEAN Cultural Colors” exhibition is also an opportunity for regional countries to honor traditional values, the beauty of the soul of citizens in each country in the ASEAN community, and strengthen connectivity, solidarity and friendship among ASEAN member states.
The items on display at the exhibition are characterized by geography, climate, and traditional culture of each ASEAN country, and at the same time, they create a picture showing the cultural diversity in Southeast Asia region.
Visiting the exhibition, the public can learn about traditional costumes, landscapes, heritage, and cultural objects. The diversity and richness of culture of each member state is unique. The event helps regional people understand each other more, and as a result, become more associated. Many local people visited the exhibition. Some of them said, this was the first time they had the opportunity to see traditional costumes of ASEAN countries. The event helped them feel friendlier and closer with other ASEAN member states.
According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong, the exhibition is actively coordinated and participated by ASEAN member countries. They have sent to the exhibition many traditional costumes, photographs and cultural artifacts.
“This affirms the special interest of ASEAN countries in cultural events organized by Vietnam in 2022 on the 55th founding anniversary of ASEAN, contributing to the overall cultural space, making it attractive for ASEAN people and international friends,” said Deputy Minister Dong.
Through the process of establishment and development, ASEAN has become a politically cohesive, economically linked and socially responsible organization, a reliable and important partner in international cooperation.
“Besides favorable opportunities, ASEAN also faces difficulties and challenges. In this context, the ASEAN community needs to show solidarity among its members to create synergy to firmly overcome challenges, through proactive adaptation and cohesion of nations. In the coming time, promoting ASEAN to rise strongly and develop sustainably is the responsibility and practical contribution of each member," said Deputy Minister Dong.
According to Mr. Dong, this year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will organize cultural exchange activities, music festivals, circus, among others, to celebrate the 55th founding anniversary of ASEAN.
Talking with a reporter from VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper, Charge d’affaires of the Malaysian Embassy in Vietnam, Mr. Neermal Shunmugam said “I am very honored to be here. I think this is a good opportunity for all of us to visit and learn about traditional costumes and unique cultures of ASEAN member countries.”
Mr. Neermal Shunmugam said he himself did not have the opportunity to admire all cultural artifacts from regional countries.
“Cultural exchange and tourism activities were quite quiet over the recent time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Malaysia has begun to relax travel restrictions and people have been able to move to other countries. I hope this year and next year, we will be able to revive tourism and exchanges in the region,” said Mr. Shunmugam.
The exhibition runs until August 12 at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh, Hanoi./.
