ASEAN discusses sustainable development in Bangkok

The ASEAN Sustainable Development Symposium 2012 is taking place in Thailand ’s capital city of Bangkok on the theme of “Sustainable Development in a Challenging World”.
The ASEAN Sustainable Development Symposium 2012 is taking place inThailand ’s capital city of Bangkok on the theme of “SustainableDevelopment in a Challenging World”.

Thethree-day event, which opened in November 5, has drawn the participationof Thai Deputy Prime Minister Kittirat Naranong, Secretary-General ofthe UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) SupachaiPanitchpakdi and more than 1,000 CEOs from ASEAN countries’ businesses.

Participants are expected to draw out a direction for the success ofthe ASEAN business community and an agenda of action to realiseprogrammes set during previous symposiums.

Thissymposium will highlight efforts to cooperate and share knowledge amongthe region’s leading CEOs in preparation for the establishment of theASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in a near future.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi

Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina, along with foreign partners Sinopec from China and Kuwait’s Kufpec, has signed a contract to explore the Melati oil and gas block, located off the coast of Sulawesi. The block is estimated to contain trillions of cubic feet of gas reserves.
