The 14th Meeting of the High-Level Task Force on the ASEAN Economic Integration Working Group (HLTF-EIWG) commenced in Kuala Lumpur on August 20 to discuss the ASEAN Post-2015 Economic Vision by 2025.

The meeting, chaired by Malaysian Senior Director of ASEAN Economic Cooperation Division under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) Datuk Ravindran Palaniappan, was attended by representatives from ten ASEAN member states.

The Preparatory Senior Economic Officials Meetings is taking place on August 20-21 before the 47th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting (AEM); related meetings were held on August 22-25 in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, the 2nd ASEAN Mayor Forum (AMF) is scheduled from September 9-11 in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, following the success of its first edition in 2011 in Surabaya, East Java.

The event was co-hosted by the Makassar City Government and United Cities and Local Governments in the Asia-Pacific (UCLG ASPAC).

It will discuss key policy frameworks and instruments as well as facilitate knowledge sharing and mutual learning among mayors and a number of international organisations working in the field to foster sustainable development and build a stronger community in Southeast Asia.

Makassar is ready to welcome 150 mayors from ASEAN member states and foreign ambassadors, Makassar Mayor Moh Ramdhan Pomanto said, adding that it provides a good momentum for introducing the potential of the city among not only ASEAN mayors but also overseas businesses attending the event.

A host of events including the Makassar Investment Forum, Makassar City Expo and ASEAN Week Festival will also be held on the sidelines of the AFM.-VNA
