ASEAN community support earthquake victims in Mexico

The ASEAN Committee in Mexico City (ACMC) on October 6 handed over a cheque worth 50,000 peso (2,800 USD) to the Mexico Red Cross to support victims of two historical earthquakes on September 7 and 19 in the country’s central southwest region.

Mexico City (VNA) - TheASEAN Committee in Mexico City (ACMC) on October 6 handed over a cheque worth50,000 peso (2,800 USD) to the Mexico Red Cross to support victims of twohistorical earthquakes on September 7 and 19 in the country’s central southwestregion.
The money was sourced from the ACMC fund,raised from ASEAN Bazaar activities.

Speaking at the event, Malaysian Ambassador toMexico Mohammad Azhar Mazlan extended the sympathies of the Governments andpeople of ASEAN countries to the victims’ families. He expressed his beliefthat the Mexican people will overcome difficulties to soon stabilise theirlives.
The two earthquakes killed at least 459 peopleand made 250,000 others homeless. They also destroyed 150,000 buildings,including 12,930 schools and 1,500 cultural and historical works.-VNA
