ASEAN, Canada to deepen dialogue relations

The 11 th ASEAN-Canada Dialogue was held in Singapore on July 2 to review the progress of the Plan of Action (2010-2015) to implement the Joint Declaration on ASEAN-Canada Enhanced Partnership across the political-security, economic, and socio-cultural fields as well as development cooperation, according to the ASEAN Secretariat.
The 11 th ASEAN-Canada Dialogue was held in Singapore onJuly 2 to review the progress of the Plan of Action (2010-2015) toimplement the Joint Declaration on ASEAN-Canada Enhanced Partnershipacross the political-security, economic, and socio-cultural fields aswell as development cooperation, according to the ASEAN Secretariat.

The meeting stressed the importance of visioning the next phaseof ASEAN-Canada cooperation, including the drafting of a new plan ofaction for the post-2015 period.

Participants also discussedways and means to strengthen and enhance cooperation in non-traditionalsecurity issues including counter terrorism, transnational crime,maritime security, and human rights.

ASEAN appreciatedCanada’s strong commitment in supporting ASEAN’s effort to achieve itsCommunity-building goals by 2015 and its post-2015 agenda.

Canada reiterated its support for ASEAN’s central role in the regionalarchitecture and looked forward to working with ASEAN to furtherstrengthen regional mechanisms for peace, stability and development inthe Asia-Pacific region.

The participants exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interests and concerns.-VNA
