ASEAN begins training disaster management officials

The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA) kicked off an executive training programme for selected disaster managerment officers from ASEAN countries on January 17.
The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA) kickedoff an executive training programme for selected disaster managermentofficers from ASEAN countries on January 17.

Under the AHA Centre Executive (ACE) programme, the officers will beinvolved in a six-month training course that covers a wide range ofmodules, including emergency management, operating an incident commandsystem and emergency communications.

Addressingthe opening ceremony, ASEAN Deputy Secretary General in charge ofcommunity and corporate affairs PhD AKP Mochtan, said the programmeaims to help disaster management leaders have a great set of skills totackle future challenges.

He added the disaster monitoring systems and hardware developed by AHA would help achieve the ACE programme goals.

The programme will be held in Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and someother ASEAN countries under the scheme of the Japan-ASEAN IntegrationFund (JAIF) and support from other ASEAN dialogue partners, such as NewZealand, the US and UN agencies.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi

Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina, along with foreign partners Sinopec from China and Kuwait’s Kufpec, has signed a contract to explore the Melati oil and gas block, located off the coast of Sulawesi. The block is estimated to contain trillions of cubic feet of gas reserves.
