Hanoi (VNA) - Agriculture and fisheries cooperation among members of theAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will help Brunei expand itseconomy and strengthen its diversification efforts, the country's Minister ofPrimary Resources and Tourism Haji Ali said on October 12.
Theminister made the remarks at the Senior Officials’ Meeting of the 41st Meetingof the ASEAN Ministers’ on Agriculture and Forestry (SOM-41st AMAF) in BandarSeri Begawan capital city.
Cooperationunder AMAF is important to Brunei, Haji Ali said, adding that apart from openingopportunities to develop the country’s agriculture, fisheries and forestrysectors, the collaboration will also assist the country in pursuing its visionto further accelerate the growth of output in these sectors, which willcontribute to the growth and diversification of the country’s economy towardsachieving Brunei vision 2035.
Anotherimportant factor to achieve rapid and continuous growth in agriculture,fisheries and forestry sectors for Brunei is promoting the use of moderntechnology and techniques, he said.
Thisis very important to increase the sectors’ productivity and enhance thesectors’ international competitiveness, he affirmed.
AfterSOM-41st AMAF, Brunei will also host the 41st AMAF, the 19th AMAF plus Three (China,Japan and the Republic of Korea) on October 15-16./.
