Argentina interested in working with ASEAN

Argentina is keen on working with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in areas of mutual potential, and has vowed to forge closer cooperative ties between the bloc and Latin America.

This was confirmed by Argentinean Ambassador to ASEAN Ricardo LuiBocalandro while submitting his credentials to ASEAN Secretary GeneralLe Luong Minh in Jakarta on March 14.

Theambassador said he sees ASEAN as an important and successful regionalorganisation that has made active contributions to maintaining peace,security and development in the region and the world.

Secretary General Minh hailed Argentina for promoting its relationswith ASEAN member states in various fields, notably economics, security,energy and tourism.

He encouraged theambassador to work with the bloc in stepping up inter-regionalcooperation between ASEAN and the Community of Latin American andCaribbean States (CELAC), the Common Market of the South (MERCOSUR), andthe Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).

Bocalandro is the second Argentinean Ambassador to the bloc since the ASEAN Charter took effect in December 2008.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi
