APEC’s trade ministers meet in Philippines

Trade ministers from 21 member economies of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum commenced their meeting in the central Philippine province of Aklan on May 23.

Duringthe two-day event, they sought consensus on the details for realisingthe initiative on a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP), whichis expected to be announced in late 2016.

Theirdiscussions also focus on promoting service trade, fightingprotectionist movement in world trade, and development of infrastructurefacilities in the region.

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi

Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina, along with foreign partners Sinopec from China and Kuwait’s Kufpec, has signed a contract to explore the Melati oil and gas block, located off the coast of Sulawesi. The block is estimated to contain trillions of cubic feet of gas reserves.
