APEC senior financial officials to meet in Ninh Binh

Hanoi (VNA) - TheAPEC Senior Finance Officials’ Meeting (SFOM) will take place in the northernprovince of Ninh Binh on May 18-19 as part of three major events of the APEC2017 Finance Ministers’ Process.

During the two-day meeting, APEC senior financialofficials will continue discussing and assessing theprogress of realising cooperation priorities approved at the APEC Finance andCentral Bank Deputies Meeting in Khanh Hoa province’s Nha Trang city inFebruary.

They will also prepare contents forthe Finance Ministers’ Meeting slated for October in Hoi An, central Quang Namprovince.

The four prioritized subjects include long-term investment ininfrastructure, base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS), disaster riskfinancing and insurance (DRFI), and cooperation in the comprehensive financialfield.

The officials will also discuss the international and regional economicsituation, assess advantages and disadvantages the Asia-Pacific region isfacing and forecast regional prospects in the coming time.

Theywill also review the progress of implementing the Cebu Action Plan’sinitiatives.

During the event, for the first time, there will be discussions between thesenior financial officials and APEC Life Sciences Innovation Forum and the HealthWorking Group on the impacts of community health to budget and the economy, andwith the Economic Committee on financial issues in APEC structural reform andinfrastructure development programme.

Theseare important steps, opening up future cooperation activities between financialofficials and other working groups/forums within and outside APEC.-VNA
