APEC officials continue discussing major issues

HCM City (VNA) – Officials from member economies of theAsia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum are expected to work on an arrayof issues on August 19, the second day of the third APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM 3) and related meetings in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Committee on Trade andInvestment (CTI) will discuss free trade agreement (FTA) negotiation skills oncompetition and capacity building for quality infrastructure investment in therapidly urbanising APEC region.

The Anti-Corruption on Transparency Working Group (ACTWG) will hold adialogue on the fight against corruption and smuggling. Meanwhile, the AutomotiveDialogue (AD) – Workshop will focus on implementing the APEC Electric VehiclesRoadmap.

August 19 also marks the second working day of other APEC sub-committeesand groups such as the Sub-Committee onCustoms Procedures, the Sub-Committee onStandards and Conformance, the TransporationWorking Group andthe Experts Group on IllegalLogging and Associated Trade.

In the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, the APEC 2017 Food Security Week willcontinue with the Climate Symposium on Building Resilient Agro-Food SystemsFrom Production to Consumption – Interdisciplinary Approaches for SustainableFood Security Using Climate Information.

The delegates will further debate challenges for water and food securityin the context of climate change in the APEC region, and agriculturalbiotechnology.

There will be a capacity building workshop on food losses and wastereduction for a sustainable APEC food system.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi

Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina, along with foreign partners Sinopec from China and Kuwait’s Kufpec, has signed a contract to explore the Melati oil and gas block, located off the coast of Sulawesi. The block is estimated to contain trillions of cubic feet of gas reserves.
