APEC 2017: Vietnamese President meets with top leader of Laos

Da Nang (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang met onNovember 11 with General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party(LPRP) and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith, who was in Da Nang city toattend the APEC-ASEAN dialogue as part of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

The Vietnamese President congratulated Laos onits enormous achievements, expressing his belief that the Lao people willsuccessfully implement the Resolution of the LPRP’s 10th National Congress andthe socio-economic development plan for 2016-2020, building Laos into aprosperous country.

He reiterated that Vietnam always supports theLao people in their national development.

LPRP General Secretary and President Vorachiththanked Vietnam for inviting his country to be a guest at the APEC-ASEANdialogue, adding that this time’s APEC meetings have helped promote Vietnam’srole and stature in the region and the world.

On this occasion, the Lao leader thanked theCommunist Party of Vietnam and the State and people of Vietnam for assistinghis country throughout history.

On behalf of the Lao Party, State and people, hepresented 100,000 USD as financial aid to people affected by storm Damrey inthe central region of Vietnam.

President Quang described the relief asconsiderable support for Vietnamese people to address disaster consequences.

At the meeting, the leaders voiced their delightat various activities held in both countries during the Year of Vietnam-LaosSolidarity and Friendship, which have helped the two peoples, especiallyyounger generations, understand more about the countries’ special relationship. 

They pledged that Vietnam and Laos will enhancebilateral cooperation in multiple fields, including politics, security,defence, economy, trade, investment, education-training and culture, andcoordinate closely at regional and international forums.

President Quang once again invited Vorachith topay a visit to Vietnam later this year to review the Year of Vietnam-LaoSolidarity ad Friendship. The Lao leader accepted the invitation withpleasure.-VNA
