Da Nang (VNA) – Deputy PrimeMinister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and US Secretary of State RexTillerson shared their belief that the State visit to Vietnam by PresidentDonald Trump would help enhance the comprehensive partnership between the twocountries.
The officials met in the central city of Da Nang on November 11, within theframework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’Week.
Rex Tillerson affirmed that the US placesimportance on the friendship and cooperation with Vietnam, stressing thesignificance of Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam, also the President’s firsttrip to Southeast Asia.
Host and guest said recent visits by leadersof the two countries demonstrate that the bilateral comprehensive partnershipholds significance to interests of their people and has contributed to peace,stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.
They also discussed measures to foster the Vietnam-US cooperation ineconomy-trade, national defence-security and the settlement of post-warconsequences.
The two sides agreed to intensify their coordination in mechanisms led by the Associationof Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and back the handling of disputes in theEast Sea by peaceful measures and in accordance with international law,including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982 UNCLOS), thuscontributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development inthe region.-VNA
