APEC 2017: Finance Minister meets IMF deputy manager in Quang Nam

Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung had a meeting with Mitsuhiro Furusawa, Deputy Manager of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on October 20 on the sidelines of the ongoing APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) 2017 that is underway in Hoi An city, the central province of Quang Nam.

Quang Nam (VNA) – Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung had ameeting with Mitsuhiro Furusawa, Deputy Manager of the International MonetaryFund (IMF) on October 20 on the sidelines of the ongoing APEC FinanceMinisters’ Meeting (FMM) 2017 that is underway in Hoi An city, the centralprovince of Quang Nam.

Dung highly valued Mitsuhiro Furusawa’s attendance at the FMM 2017 andrelated activities, lauding IMF’s report at the discussion on regionalmacro-economy, which provided an overview on global and regional economic andfinancial situation.

He praised the IMF’s role in making regular review on Vietnam’s macro-economyand reform process, especially in giving comments on the country’s fiscal policyand the stabilization of the financial system.

He thanked the IMF for supporting Vietnam’s economic growth throughcredit programmes and technical support, especially in tax policy and taxadministrative management.

The institution’s assistance in expertise in budget, treasury and taxhas greatly contributed to the macro-economic stability of Vietnam, helping thecountry renovate its important public financial policies and institutions, hesaid.

The minister also spoke highly of the IMF’s Technical Assistance Office(TAOLAM)’s help in strengthening the Finance Ministry’s capacity inmacro-economic governance, currency, financial statistics and public financial management.

In the future, Vietnam hopes to continue receiving the IMF’s support in fiscalstability, budget management, public debt settlement and State-owned enterprisereform, personnel training, said Dung.

He also expressed wish that the lender would design a mechanism tostrengthen technical dialogue with the Finance Ministry to match their demand andcapacity.

For his part, Mitsuhiro Furusawa showed special interest in Vietnam’shosting of APEC 2017, lauding the Finance Ministry’s efforts in chairingactivities of the APEC FMM 2017.

Highly valuing the cooperation between the ministry and the lender overthe past years, he affirmed that the institution will continue fosteringcollaboration in professional issues of shared concern and sharing itsexperience in prioritised matters that Vietnam has proposed during the FMM.-VNA
