Hanoi (VNA) – Members of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption’s StandingBoard have agreed on plans to finalise the investigation, prosecution andjudgment of 23 corruption and economic cases in 2017 and the first quarter of2018.

The plans were builtduring the board’s meeting in Hanoi on November 25 under the chair of GeneralSecretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.

At the meeting, they focusedon reviewing corruption prevention and control activities so far while pointingout difficulties facing some major cases recently.

Addressing the event,the Party leader, who is also head of the committee, noted that after themeeting of the committee’s standing board in April this year, the settlement ofsome specific corruption cases saw significant progress, which was lauded bythe community.

However, he said that thehandling of some case have been overdue due to difficulties in many stagesincluding investigation, verification, asset reclamation.

He lauded thecommittee’s building of a list of urgent cases requiring drastic settlement. Heasked the committee to concentrate on dealing with the case of Trinh Xuan Thanhat the PetroVietnam Construction Corporation (PVC) and the PCV’s investment of800 billion VND (35.19 million USD) in OceanBank. The cases must be brought tothe court in the rest of the year and February 2018 as latest, he requested.

He also urged authorisedagencies to coordinate smoothly to speed up the investigation, prosecution andjudgment of urgent corruption cases drawing public concern.-VNA
